No Avoiding It… (lunch dinner 11.28.08)

Saturday, November 29, 2008 3:30 No Comments

The day started off gray and rainy so there was very little motivation to get moving but after noontime the skies cleared and we were itching to get out of the house. I had no desire to fight the crowds and go shopping but at this time of year there isn’t really any way to avoid it. We headed to Copley (a shopping center) mainly to get some lunch but by default we poked around and started to get some gift ideas. We ate lunch at the California Pizza Kitchen where I chose the Thai Chicken Pizza on Honey Wheat dough. I ate half of it along with 2 pieces of tortilla rolls.

100_2372.JPGWe ended up taking more of a walk around the Copley area then we did shop but that was fine with me…it was surely a lot less expensive! Of course we stopped in Starbucks so that we had a warm beverage to drink on our chilly walk outside.

For dinner we dined out as well, just at a local family restaurant. I had a salad to start and then baked scrod with rice and the “vegetable of the day”.

100_2376.JPGWe eat here a lot and the veggie is usually broccoli, squash or a mixture of sauteed vegetables so I didn’t even ask what it was when I ordered…I was quite surprised to get fried breaded eggplant with tomato sauce and cheese! I ate about 3/4 of the fish, 1/2 the rice and 1/3 the eggplant. We have another family wedding this weekend and maybe a few more visitors but not much else going on. It should be a nice relaxed couple of days. Enjoy your weekend as well!

Thanksgiving Recap!

Thumbnail image for IMG_2422.JPGYesterday morning we kicked off our new family Thanksgiving Day tradition by participating in the 16th Annual Center for Educational Advancement/Johanna Foods Turkey Trot 5k run and 2 mile fitness walk. We ran/walked alongside 4,044 people including a few turkeys, a banana, and Santa. It was a fun way to kick off the holiday (even though my sister beat me by 3 minutes)! And I
IMG_2426.JPGcouldn’t believe the number of our friends, neighbors, and Clinton United players that were carrying on their family Thanksgiving Day tradition by running too. Nice! After the run, we ATE. Oh, and thanks to my mom and dad who walked/ran with the boys :)

*More pictures from the run to follow, they’re on my mom’s camera!

IMG_2423.JPGThen today Meag and I laced up our cleats and headed over to the high school turf field for our alumni soccer game. What a blast, GO BRHS!!! And would you believe the old lady team beat the current/just graduated team. Thanks to everyone who organized the game and played :)

IMG_2425.JPGTonight I’m taking my nieces, my boys, and my sister-in-law to see High School Musical at the local theater. We’ve been singing and dancing to the soundtrack for weeks, so everyone is pumped. Have a great weekend.

Friday, November 28, 2008 21:27 No Comments

You got through Thanksgiving without over doing it and now the leftovers are staring at you from the refrigerator. Oops, did you forget to give them to your quests as you were walking them out the door? So now how…

Looking for gift ideas? Here are some of the gifts I’m giving this year

It’s Black Friday but analysts expect the malls to be quieter this year. For one thing, many are cutting back on holiday spending in response to persistent economic uncertainty. Also, many now choose to save the gas and the hassle…

5:30 Wake-Up Call (breakfast 11.28.08)

Friday, November 28, 2008 15:35 No Comments

It’s the day after Thanksgiving and many people set their alarm clocks very early to get up and get their holiday shopping started today. I had my own 5:30am wake-up call but it was just to feed the baby and then I went back to sleep afterward! As I was stumbling around in the nursery, I was thinking how people were voluntarily up at that hour — and excited about it! Since today is Mike’s last day off of work I think we will be out and about doing things but there was no way we were starting that early. It’s just been a lazy morning here in our house, hence the late morning breakfast post. Bruce is absolutely exhausted from his big day yesterday…he even cut his own walk short this morning. I’d like to take a good walk later today to start working off some of that food from yesterday and that baby weight that I mentioned ignoring on the holiday. Since I feel like I am recovered from my surgery now, my goal is actually to try to resume my walking routine and have it off by Christmas / New Year’s. I don’t plan on cutting any calories — I just hope to burn some through exercise and we’ll see how that works. This morning I actually wasn’t too hungry so I had a big plate of fruit salad and a glass of skim milk mixed with a packet of vanilla No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast. I’m sure I’ll be looking for more food later, but I think I am still getting fuel from yesterday’s big meal! Happy Friday if you are at work…and happy shopping & relaxing if you are not!
