Favorite Food Calorie Counts

J0436527 Sometimes ignorance is bliss but if you are tempted to eat more than you should of your holiday favorites these calorie counts may help you think twice. Do note that these are just average portions. Be selective in your indulgences!  I strongly urge you  to use ND’s Food Entry Tool  to check your other favorites for calorie counts and My Tracking for accountability! The following are just a few of the favorites to be careful with:

-Crudités with about a half of cup of artichoke dip contains 600 calories. Three Potato latkes with one heaping tablespoon of sour cream is 410 calories.

-Eight ounces of cooked prime rib is about 854 calories; ham is about 570 calories.

-One cup of mashed potatoes is about 250 calories; stuffing is about 356 calories.

-One slice of Pecan pie is about 420 calories; pumpkin pie is about 320 calories, apple pie is 420 calories and the infamous fruit cake is 300 calories. (If you don’t eat the crust on the pies you can eliminate about a 100 calories.)

-Eight ounces of eggnog is 343 calories; an Irish coffee is 205 calories; hot chocolate with whipped cream is 260 calories, and hot buttered rum is 292 calories.

These are just the calorie counts. I shutter when I even think of the fat content of most of these items!

Strategy: Eat some veggies or fruit before the party and do not starve yourself all day, otherwise you will be overly hungry and tempted to overeat at the event. You might want to trim the portion sizes down too.
