The Eating Late at Night Myth: We’re Not Gremlins
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 9:55 No CommentsWith the holiday season in full swing, a reference to the classic ’80s film “Gremlins” seems most apropos. If you’ll recall, owning a gremlin (well, in Gizmo form, that is) required following some very specific rules, chief among them being that you cannot, under any circumstances, feed them after midnight. OK, no problem. They don’t get to eat after…
Basic Three (dinner 12.30.08)
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 2:32 No CommentsAs soon as the sun went down today it got a lot colder and we are looking at another snow storm tomorrow — just in time for the New Year’s festivities! We are heading to a friend’s house so we’ll be inside for the evening but we will have to deal with the snow to get there. I’ll be busy tomorrow making food for the party so I am going to wrap my night up soon and get an early start tomorrow. I made a simple “basic three” dinner (meat/starch/veggie) which was quick to make and to clean up, especially because we used the outdoor grill for the steak tips and a piece of Reynold’s nonstick tinfoil for the baked sweet potatoes. All that was left to clean was the pot I steamed the broccoli in! I picked Mike up from work and treated myself to a latte — I am officially addicted again now that it’s okay to have a little more caffeine. I have been switching it up between decaf, “half-caf”and regular depending on the time of day, but the regular has been calling to me frequently now that I am a chronically a bit sleep deprived.![]()
This Meal Provides Approximately: Vegetables = 3 cups, Meat & Beans = 4-5 ounces (I only ate half of this…eyes bigger than stomach), Oils = 3 teaspoons

I guess the holidays are officially over…no more red Starbucks cups!
Diet Coke Plus Fraud
Tuesday, December 30, 2008 23:52 No CommentsSupposedly Coca-Cola was marketing a new product called Diet Coke Plus, which was “fortified” with additional vitamins and minerals… that’s what the “plus” meant. However, the FDA reviewed the label and claims that Coke made and it looks like they…
Keep your New Year’s Resolution
Tuesday, December 30, 2008 21:31 No CommentsSome people are thinking of their New Year’s Resolutions. Some don’t even bother making them because they never keep them. As Monica mentioned in her recent newsletter some people just say, “What’s the point?” And with most people having only…
Blown Away (lunch 12.30.08)
Tuesday, December 30, 2008 18:27 No CommentsWe just almost got blown away on our walk with Bruce. It’s extremely windy today but at least the sun is shining and if you are on the right side of the street it’s not too bad. I was happy to have my sunglasses, even though they have the big crack in them they still get the job done. I’ll replace them in the summer when I am using them all the time, on the few days I need them now it doesn’t bother me. The morning flew by with all the things we were out doing. I am glad to be back home and sitting down for a few minutes. I do need to walk up to our local grocery later to grab some meat for dinner. I could have stopped on my way home but I figured since it isn’t too cold out the walk there and back will be good for some exercise later on. For my lunch I made a sandwich with peppercorn turkey, cheese and leftover salad parts from last night’s dinner (lettuce, carrots, red onion, cucumber & avocado). On the side I had a few multigrain tortilla chips and two clementines (the second was consumed after the photo was taken). While I was out I ate a peanut peanut butter Kashi granola bar. I hoping this keep me energized because my goal is to go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight so I am going to try to get as much done this afternoon as I can. I fell asleep on the couch last night and hate waking up there knowing I still have things to do!![]()
