Thursday, December 11, 2008 9:22 No Comments

Chicken salad is usually full of high fat mayonnaise which makes it not such a good choice for something to eat when you are working on weight loss. Chicken Salad with Couscous though, is a chicken salad that you can…

Some Days… (dinner 12.10.08)

Thursday, December 11, 2008 3:51 No Comments

Today was a long day but it’s winding down now and I am looking forward to getting some rest. I am hoping that Will sleeps well tonight since he didn’t seem to rest well during the day today. I suppose going on walks in the rain and having to take a trip to the grocery store (I ended up forgetting parsley for the scampi) didn’t help! Since today was busier than I expected it to be, tomorrow I am staying put…especially given the weather forecast of a “wintry mix”. This afternoon I made myself a hot cocoa with steamed milk, but I only drank a small part of it because I had to attend to my little guy and it went cold. I snacked on some whole grain goldfish later in the day because Mike had a basketball game and dinner was going to be late. For supper I made shrimp scampi – a quick & easy dish thanks to the limited number of ingredients. I should have made a salad along with it but there just wasn’t time to. I guess today I got a taste of what some days will be like – I have been spoiled so far because Will has been such an easy baby. I am just going to try to rest up tonight and I’ll wake up tomorrow hoping for a good day like we have been having all along!

100_2521.JPGMy afternoon snack (Goldfish & Cocoa) provided approximately: Grains = 1 ounce (+whole), Milk = 0.5 cup, Discretionary Calories = 15-20 kcals (ovaltine)

Calorie-burning cardio workout

Thursday, December 11, 2008 2:34 No Comments

IMG_2513.JPGTonight I’m patiently waiting for my turn to exercise. But once my husband gets off the treadmill, I’m heading to the basement with my workout in hand. I just printed the “Calorie-Burning Cardio Workout” from self.com. It’s a 25 minute cardio interval plan.  My girlfriend Karli mentioned today that she uses it when she hits the pool for her swims. But you can use this workout for any type of cardio (walking, running, or biking). The plan is all about getting that heart rate up and recovering. It’s my turn. I’m ready to sweat!

Recently a struggling dieter came in. She had been “dieting” off and on for a year on her own and was still struggling with the same 40 pounds she had when she first started. She had some small successes of…
