Cookie Racism…
Thursday, January 29, 2009 19:18 No CommentsGothamistIt’s hard to believe. Only a few days after the inauguration of our first African-American president, and in New York City, which many consider the liberal capital of the United States of America, you’d find that! I’ll be blunt. It’s called a “drunken negro head” cookie. And a Manhattan bakery, in Greenwich Village of all places, was selling them in…

Tough Question… (breakfast 1.29.09)
Thursday, January 29, 2009 11:47 No CommentsBruce is getting groomed today which means we are headed outside the city early this morning. I am heading right back into Boston though because I have plans to meet up with a friend who I used to see at Mom’s Group. I can’t go to group anymore because of class so instead we are going to meet at Flour to enjoy a hot beverage, a baked treat and chat about the babies! I ate a bowl of Cinnamon Life cereal for breakfast and a couple clementines too. I know I am having a snack mid-morning so I didn’t load up on fiber or protein. Now the tough question is…what should I choose at Flour?! Have a great day!![]()
This Meal Provides Approximately: Grains = 1.25 ounces (+/-whole), Fruit = 0.66 cup, Milk = 1.25 cup
I say +/- whole grain because the first ingredient is whole grain oat flour but then it’s followed up by a refined grain.

Back On Track (dinner 1.28.09)
Thursday, January 29, 2009 2:02 No CommentsI got back on track late this afternoon and had dinner on the table right at the time I planned for it to be. I didn’t get much work done today but I can make up for that this weekend now that Mike’s work schedule has slowed down a bit. Dinner actually came together pretty easily because I had plenty of time to get it going. I slow cooked a center cut pork loin in a mixture of chicken broth, apple cider, sliced yellow onions, garlic and fresh thyme. I seared the pork in a pan first then put it into the slow cooker (the liquid came up about half way on the loin). I let it cook for 4 hours and it came out great. For sides I roasted sweet potatoes in the oven (tossed in olive oil, salt & pepper, fresh thyme – 425 degrees for 45 minutes), parmesan couscous and asparagus. It was a nice meal — a few more pots than usual to clean up but that’s okay when the meal is tasty! We’ll be up early tomorrow so that we can get Bruce to the groomer. I am hoping the roads are not icy…I don’t like driving in bad weather, especially with a baby in the car.![]()
