Broccoli Here is a continuation of the list from yesterday of healthy, and weight loss friendly, foods that costs under $1.00.

6. Nuts contain "good fat" and a good amount of protein. A little bit of nuts goes a long way! Some nuts are expensive, but peanuts and walnuts are usually inexpensive. You can add nuts to a salad or create your own trail mix with nuts, raisins, dark chocolate chips and some high fiber cereal.

7. Bananas are full of fiber and make quite a satisfying snack. You can usually find bananas for about 69 cents or less per pound. Bananas are great in cereal or smoothies and make an easy and portable snack.

8. Beans are high in fiber and protein and can be used in a variety of ways. From soups to salads beans are an inexpensive food. Use dried beans and soak them overnight for the least expensive way to purchase them, or used canned beans which run about $1.00 a can. Beans can be eaten for any meal for a satisfying dish - my favorite thing to make with beans is black bean hummus.

9. Broccoli is another inexpensive vegetable that provides lots of nutrition and fiber. Broccoli can be eaten raw, steamed or roasted. Use broccoli in omelets, salads, stir fries or soups. I have also found frozen chopped broccoli on sale for $1.00 a box and I add it to pasta dishes.

10. Watermelon can be less than $1.00 per serving. It is so refreshing on a hot day because it has a high water content - which also makes it quite filling. You can watermelon as a snack or make it a treat and cut it into chunks and freeze it!

Tomorrow there will be more healthy foods that you can get for under $1.00.
