Evening Meeting (dinner 2.26.09)
Friday, February 27, 2009 2:52 No CommentsToday was a busy day but there was no stress involved so the time just went by quickly. I went for a long walk with my girlfriend this afternoon which felt great. It was not as warm as I thought it was going to be but for half the walk (when the wind was at our backs) it really was not too bad. Bruce is exhausted from the loop we did which is good for him and I am sure I will sleep well tonight too. After the walk I had a PB&J whole wheat bagel, did a few things at the house and then had to go out to a board meeting for Julie’s. The meeting was right around dinner time and they always have things to eat there. I passed on the dinner items (because I was planning to eat with Mike) but I caved when they passed dessert. After the meeting Mike and I grabbed a quick bite of Mexican food at a local place called Salsa’s. I had a few chips and salsa then half of a vegetarian burrito in a wheat wrap. I plan on eating the rest of it tomorrow as one of my meat-free meals. I forgot my camera so the pictures are a bit blurry (the lighting was low and iPhone camera has no flash). ![]()
Walk This Way!

Ahhh, this is the first time all day that I’m sitting down. I didn’t want to waste a nice day so the gang and I were non-stop. We played frisbee, rode bikes, played on the swings, and even had a picnic dinner on the back porch. Then I put them to bed and quickly hit the basement for a workout. Tonight I had a 3 mile run on my half marathon training schedule, but I changed it up a little bit and added walking backwards to the routine to keep me interested. So, I walked backwards/ran on the treadmill for 40 minutes instead. Walking backwards on the treadmill is fun. Have you tried it? It puts less stress on your knees (great if you’re recovering from an injury) and targets different muscles. But be warned, the backwards thing can be a little tricky at first. I started out with a warm up at a slow pace (at about a speed of 2.5). Then I alternated running (at about a speed of 7 with slight incline) and walking backwards (at about a speed of 2.5-4.5 with slight incline) every five minutes. It was definitely a great change, but watch your balance when you turn from front to back on the treadmillJ
