Dealing with Life’s Stress – 1

Monday, March 30, 2009 0:45

J0422126 Eating over life’s problems is frequently a problem for overweight people. The good news is there are always various solutions. Here is just one way to approach stress. This technique is looking at a specific challenge very logically and asking yourself some basic questions around it. Here’s how.

This first step involves weeding out the actual “problem.”  Merely thinking about it is not enough, you need to sit down and write about it from your heart so you are able to gain clarity on the issue. (Later go to your friends or family [only those that can be objective about it] for additional clarity if you need to.)

These are the first few questions you need to consider and write about:

  • What is it about the situation that is problematic for you?
  • Why is this causing you so much stress and frustration?
  • What are your feelings, thoughts, attitudes and beliefs regarding this stressful situation?
  • Make sure you are not merely reacting to the challenge.
  • Are your thoughts truly rational? (This is where getting another person’s opinion can be helpful.)
  • More importantly are your thoughts truly reflective of the real truth of the problem?
  • Lastly, if your thoughts and feelings are truly rational, what are they telling you what you personally need or want?  Are these needs realistic?
  • Is getting this need (or want) the real problem?

Tomorrow I will go more into the part about seeking the solution.
