Exercise of the Week: Attack the Hills
Thursday, April 2, 2009 2:20There’s a reason most people stay away from doing any type of “hills” in their routine.
The reason is that they are hard!
Whether you are sprinting up them, running, jogging, or just walking them you can tell right away by the increase of the beating your heart that you’re getting a great workout. If you don’t include any type of hill work in your current exercise program I highly recommend adding in some incline resistance to your cardio days at least 1x a week.
Beginners can start by just adding some small hills into their walking routes.
Intermediates can add some longer gradual inclines into their jogs and runs.
Advanced exercisers can full out attack the hills by doing short, steep incline sprints.
And remember, if it’s a rainy day out and you don’t feel like venturing outside you can always find a staircase somewhere and turn 50 – 100 stairs into your own indoor hill!
