Deprivation and Dieting

Long term deprivation while you are losing weight does not work. Even the best dieter needs to have a spurge now and then. But that doesn’t mean you need to go totally overboard all the time either. There are several ways of doing this. You can either have a small controlled amount of whatever it is you truly have a yen for or seek out a tasty substitution which will work for you.
What are the pros and cons of each? If you go with the "real thing" keep in mind there may be more calories to consider, although if you keep the serving size small enough that would not be a big consideration. But if you go for a larger splurge and you feel it’s worth every single bite by all means go for it (just don’t do it very often). And remember you’ll pay for it later in the time and effort it may take you to lose your weight. No whining allowed then. For those of you who might be ok with some lower calorie substitutions I’ll share a few ideas with you later in the week.
In the meantime, readers please share your thoughts with us on this. What works the best for you?

I can relate to this article as I know from first hand experience just how hard it is to lose weight, and to maintain it. I wrote a book called `Alone in the Storm,’ which has recently been published, and it is about an overweight woman who subconsciously put on the weight to protect herself from being hurt by love. She struggles with her weight problems, and in the end she manages to overcome them, but not before she learns some important lessons in life, and realizes that in order to find love, you have to first love yourself.
