Power Words

IMG_3496.JPGBoston Marathon’s 3rd place finisher Kara Goucher is an AWESOME athlete. I loved reading her tips on staying motivated. I’m a big fan of power words too. Lately they’re the key to getting me through my long runs.
My favorite power phrase is ”Keep Swimming” from the movie “Finding Nemo”. When I’m struggling during those last few miles (or in life), I scream the words in my head to remind myself to push on. What’s your mantra? Have a great weekend!

Wrong Meat (lunch 4.24.09)

I ran around this morning and then headed to meet my friend at the lake that we walk around near her house. We were just two of many people out there soaking up the sun. Will fell asleep by the time we made it to the park so he didn’t get a chance to go on the swings but now we are home and Bruce needs a walk so maybe we will go to our park and he can have a ride there. My friend and I were both starving by the time we finished walking so we called in some sandwiches and picked them up to-go. I jumped right on the highway and then hit a traffic jam so I decided to open up my sandwich and eat it. I was very disapointed when I saw that instead of turkey like I ordered I had a roast beef sandwich in there, yuck. I was so hungry though I just ate it, but now I am trying to think about what I can have for dinner that I really like to make up for that meal! Smooth Start (breakfast 4.24.09)

I am using up my two pounds of strawberries so that I don’t waste any and this morning I did so by making a smoothie. I made my usual banana, skim milk, peanut butter and ice combo but I added the strawberries in for some extra nutrients and flavor. I really liked this spin on my normal smoothie and I think I’ll do it more often now!

The sun is shining bright and we already have a walk planned with a friend so it looks like it’s going to be a good day! I have to run over to school to pick up some lab reports and then get to grading them this weekend. Do you have plans to do something fun in the good weather this weekend? It looks like most parts of the country are going to be getting this “heat wave” and maybe now I can safely say it’s officially spring!
