Vegetable Juice Helps Dieters Lose More Weight
Friday, May 1, 2009 10:45 No CommentsV8 JuiceUnless it’s mixed with vodka and Tabasco sauce, I’m not interested in vegetable juice. I don’t see the point. Just like fruit juice, vegetable juice lacks fiber, which defeats an important purpose of eating vegetables. But some experts suggest drinking a glass of vegetable juice each day may help overweight dieters lose more weight. And they claim drinking veggies…
How Many Calories In Your Burger and Fries?
Friday, May 1, 2009 10:16 No CommentsWith mandatory calorie information in restaurants in New York, and Congress calling for calories to be displayed on fast food menus throughout America, we might hope that fast food consumers are starting to pay attention and reconsider eating that giant burger. 3 Tips for Running with Ease

The aches and pains of running have finally caught up with my body; 8+ miles and my knees are hurting. My answer to the pain… Chi Running. The book, Chi Running by Danny Dreyer takes your running mechanics back to the days of being a kid, where running was natural, effortless, and so much fun. While reading this book over the last couple of weeks I’ve been attempting to put a few of the techniques to the test. Ideally after practice, I will be a Chi Runner, but for now it’s baby steps. Here are 3 simple tips that are helping me get through my half marathon training (ahhhh, it’s just 3 days away).
1. Lean- Let gravity do the work by tilting forward from your ankles (as if you were a tree leaning from the roots). I use this technique the most when I’m cruising up and down hills. Believe me, it does make a difference.
2. Arm Swing- Keep those arms bent at 90 degrees and swing straight back like your elbowing someone in the gut. This technique takes some of the workload off your legs. Try it when your lower body feels heavy.
3. Mid-Foot Strike-Take short steps landing on a flat foot rather than on a rolling heel. I’m still working on this one.
*You can find this book on www.amazon.com for about $10.00. Injury-free running is worth it!
Quick Quick (dinner 4.30.09)
Friday, May 1, 2009 1:50 No CommentsIt’s crazy that we have arrived at Friday again – the weeks are flying by these days. The months are too – I can’t believe Will is 6 months old tomorrow! I am enjoying the age he is at right now and it continues to amaze me how each week brings something new. We spent the day doing the usual — since Will doesn’t take more than a 30-minute nap during the day we end up doing a lot of playing and walking…not much working or house work though. I put him to bed, made dinner and now am settling down to do some grading. For dinner I made an easy meal of spaghetti with tomato & onion sauce and a salad on the side. It was quick to make and quick to clean up which was my goal so that I could get right to work. Tomorrow I have to take a road trip in the morning so tonight has to be productive! ![]()
