Get My Workout In! (breakfast 6.30.09)

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 13:18 No Comments

I can’t believe it’s the last day of June already – this month flew by! I am excited for the fast approaching Fourth of July holiday and the cookouts that go along with it. I am all packed up and now it’s time to get everything in the car for our trip today. I’ll be getting my workout in with several trips up and down the stairs. In fact I already got a half cardio, half weight training stint in when I took Bruce for his morning walk and had Will in a front carrier. The baby is getting pretty heavy and walking with him in that is like wearing a weight vest (the hills are the hardest). I am trying to use up my loaf of bread before I go so I had another couple of slices for my breakfast topped with peanut butter and jelly. I also had grapes and a glass of skim milk. We will be taking off after lunchtime which I am sure will be here before I know it! Have a great day!

Salad vs. Big Mac: Which Has More Calories?

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 10:00 No Comments

Perhaps you’ve been eating healthily, switching your usual fast-food lunch for a salad from a supermarket. If you haven’t been seeing the results you’d like, it could be because that innocent-sounding salad contains more calories and fat than a Big Mac….

Dynamic Warm-Ups

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 3:27 No Comments

It’s a late entry tonight. I got sucked into the Bachelorette and lost track of time. I really am a reality TV junkie. Anyway…onto the blog.  At yesterday’s soccer game our players were dropping like flies. We had a knee injury, a pulled hamstring, and a rolled ankle. Thankfully most of the injuries were minor, but for me they were a reminder that my pregame warm-up (talking and touching my toes) needs to be revamped! Dynamic warm-ups (exercises that get you prepped to move for your activity) are key. Here are a few moves that I’ll be doing pre-game on Wednesday.

1.       Straight Leg Kicks-Standing tall, kick leg straight up in front while reaching

 2.
Back Pedaling- Jog up 20 feet, and back pedal, repeat

   3.    Lateral High Knees-Bring those knees up high while jogging laterally.

J I’ll keep you posted on the fun!

Egg Sandwich for One (dinner 6.29.09)

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 1:45 No Comments

I love cooking for my family but I do enjoy the nights when I have an excuse not to. Tonight I made myself a simple egg sandwich for dinner because I am the only one here and I am heading to my parents house tomorrow for the rest of the week so the fridge is bare. I spent my afternoon starting to pack and I took Bruce and Will for a nice long walk because we FINALLY got a clearing in the weather. I think everyone that lives in my neighborhood was out along the water walking, running, rollerblading, biking and taking their dogs for a stroll. I plan to do some more packing now, some Q&A (sorry, sorry, sorry so late), and then get to bed. Although I don’t have a whole lot going on tomorrow I have a feeling it’s going to feel hectic & tiring trying to get everything in the car and down to my parents. I’ll be happy when I am there and settled in for the Fourth of July weekend!
