Asthma: The Benefits of Yoga and Other Exercises
Thursday, June 11, 2009 10:00 No CommentsUntil recently, the link between yoga and improved asthma was anecdotal, but unproven. But, a recent study out of New York University School of Medicine/Bellevue Medical Center has made a pretty good case. Researchers there found that asthmatics who practised Hatha yoga regularly (or three times a week) for ten weeks reported a significant improvement in asthma symptoms and…

“Paying” with Food Again (dinner 6.10.09)
Thursday, June 11, 2009 2:48 No CommentsWednesday is over and I managed to get everything done that needed to be done. Now it’s time to relax for a few minutes. Actually I am going to sit down but I am going to go over my instructions for sewing class tomorrow. I could not do any work on my skirt since I don’t have a machine at home (and I am not ready to sew on my own) but the instructor said to be familiar with the instructions so that I can move through them easily. So as I catch up on today’s news and events I’ll also be trying to follow a pattern. My brother came over and watched Will so that I could attend the board meeting for Julie’s. I came right home after and cooked us some dinner which he appreciated. I am making a habit of “paying” people with food this week (the sandwich for Nana and now the frittata for Matt). All I have on my plate tomorrow is class at night so hopefully we can get a nice long walk in if the rain hold off long enough.![]()
For dinner I had the frittata and some bread. Before the board meeting (after swimming) I grabbed a piece of my homemade banana bread to hold me over for a couple of hours – even though I am not really swimming, that class tires me out! ![]()
This Meal Provides Approximately: Grains = 3 ounces (-whole), Vegetables = 1 cup, Milk = 2.5 cups, Meat & Beans = 1.75-2 ounces, Oils = 2 teaspoons, Discretionary Calories = 45-55 kcals (cheese in frittata and some butter in banana bread recipe)

When the clock strikes 12 in most offices, it usually means one thing: lunch! Not here. For fitness director Meaghan Murphy and me, noon is stretching time! Meag’s working out her tight quads from an intense soccer match on the foam roller (LOVE this toy! If you haven’t tried one you must. You can get one fromA SPRI.)and I’m limbering up a tight IT band after a 5 mile run this morning.
Don’t Go Overboard With Organic Junk-Food
Wednesday, June 10, 2009 21:22 No CommentsCookies, cake, ice-cream, candies, chips and the like can all be found made with organic ingredients, but that does not give you license to eat as much of these foods as you’d like. If you are working on weight loss…
