Too Outdated for Weight Loss? – 2

Saturday, June 27, 2009 14:59 No Comments

The other day I focused on the importance of lifestyle change (behavior modification principles) when losing weight. Today’s emphasis will be on cognitive-behavioral strategies and how it plays into the importance of weight management. Cognitive behavioral concepts may not sound…

Birthday Bash – Part 2 (lunch/dinner 6.26.09)

Saturday, June 27, 2009 13:42 No Comments

I got to continue my birthday celebrations for a second night in a row. Mike, Will and I went out to a restaurant in Boston that we had never dined at before, Union Bar & Grille, a great choice by Mike because the food was amazing! I decided last night that I like any restaurant that starts you off with freshly made cornbread!

After the cornbread Mike and I shared two appetizers (yes, he happily shared with me) – braised short ribs and homemade potato gnocchi.

100_5363.JPGAfter that I had my grilled chili marinated shrimp dinner and a bite of a sirloin steak & couscous special (Mike was a little more protective of his entree). I said no to dessert initially but I am a sucker for Tahitian vanilla bean creme brulee so we shared that and ended the meal with a cappuccino.

100_5368.JPGAfter dinner I met up with some girlfriends and stayed out with them for a couple more drinks. They all know I write the blog and I think they were challenging my truthfulness when they ordered up these…

There you go girls, the shot you made me do made it on the blog. I had one glass of wine with them then water because I was too full at that point for anything else. It’s been a great couple of days spent with friends and family and I feel like a very lucky birthday girl!

(This afternoon I had a quick, portable lunch in the car on the way to class with Will – our dinner reservation was early so I didn’t need my lunch to hold me over as long as it usually has to when I cook at home – I never ate my peach at breakfast so I had it with lunch instead)
lunch626.JPGI haven’t been counting my meals these last two days because I don’t like to for celebrations and special events. I ate what I wanted to and didn’t reallly think much about how it fit into a well balanced day but now my celebration is over and I’ll go back to my usual habits. Thanks for helping me celebrate with all the birthday wishes you sent along and the encouragement to enjoy it…I did!

Milk Better Than Fruit Drinks at Reducing Hunger

Saturday, June 27, 2009 10:00 No Comments

Flickr: tillwe Milk is gross. It makes me sick. And honestly, I don’t know why people drink it. We don’t need it. Milk is for baby cows, not humans. Now, even though I don’t like milk, it’s got to be better than sugary fruits drinks, right? Make no mistake, fruits drinks are not the same as fruit juice. Juice is…
