Cutting More Calories

J0430786 The other day I started discussing some ways to make calorie cutting effortless. Today I'll provide you with a few more ideas.

  • Try eating adequate amounts of protein at each meal/snack. Protein balances blood sugar until the next meal or snack. Protein satiates much better than empty calorie carbs, and keeps you going longer than a carb alone snack. It literally takes a lot more of these carb calories to fill you up compared to a small amount of protein. And by consuming more protein (and exercising) you’ll preserve more muscle which in tern burns more calories.
  • Move more in little ways.  When you take a phone call simply get up, stand or walk, or even just fidget! When you are at work on the phone, pace when you talk. If you are on the street keep walking and talking! Or just stand instead of sit. Generally the more you just move the more calories you burn. On the average you burn 100 calories sitting, while standing you might burn closer to 140. It all adds up.
  • Get you Zzzzzzzzzzz’s. Lack of sleep is considered stress to the body and can raise the stress hormones. Cortisol contributes to appetite, making you want to eat more than you need to. It’s also been suggested that lack of sleep interferes with carbohydrate metabolism meaning you might store more fat.
Start with just one of these options and remember what Jim Rohn says, " For every disciplined effort there is a multiple reward."
