Tuesday, September 29, 2009 10:00 No CommentsAt 113 years of age, Walter Breuning has seen a lot (and I mean A LOT) of fad diets come and go. So what’s the dietary secret to his longevity? Eating less… yup, that’s pretty much it! Breuning was born in 1896. Before we get into how he defies father time, let that sink in for a minute… eighteen…

I’m Abbi, an editorial assistant here at SELF and I’m going to be guest-blogging for the next month about a recent yoga retreat in Italy I went on. 1/2 Bushel Later… (dinner 9.28.09)

We had a very successful apple picking trip and now I have a 1/2 bushel of them waiting to be consumed in some way, shape or form. Thanks for all the suggestions on Friday – keep sharing because not only do I love getting the ideas, I am sure the other readers do as well!
On our trip we picked macoun, spencer, honeycrisp, empire and ultra macs…of course I could not tell you which is which right now but I do know they are all very tasty (we sampled in the orchard). Will had his very own apple to snack on and we all shared a cider doughnut at the end. For dinner Mike’s mom cooked us a healthy and tasty meal of steak, sweet potato, swiss chard, broccoli and fresh tomatoes with basil, balsamic and a little blue cheese. It was a great day with the entire family and we are tired out from it! I think it’ll be a little TV watching then bed – no need to exhaust ourselves on the first day of vacation.
Missing is two additional apples and a grande nonfat latte. This Meal Provides Approximately: Grains = 0.5 ounce, Fruit = 2 cups, Vegetables = 2.5-3 cups, Milk = 1.75 cup, Meat & Beans = 4 ounces, Oils = 2-3 teaspoons, Discretionary Calories = 70-80 kcals (doughnut, cheese)
