Planning for Your Super Bowl Party
Friday, January 29, 2010 13:38The Super Bowl is not that far away so, if you are planning on having, or even going to a party, it is time to start thinking about how you can enjoy the day and not overdo-it with all the food around.
Here are some tips to have a healthy, and weight loss friendly, Super Bowl party:
Enjoy vegetables and low-fat dips. If you are making the dips make them with low-fat yogurt or sour cream, or even silken tofu, instead of full fat creams and mayonnaise.
Hummus, salsa, and guacamole are also great dips to have for whole grain crackers and pretzels.
Make nachos with baked chips and low fat cheese.
Drink water and other non-caloric beverages. If you are going to drink, alternate each alcoholic beverage with a glass of water. Remember that drinking can lower your inhibitions and cause you to eat more than you planned to.
During half-time take a walk. If you, or your guests, have a Wii play for a while until the game starts up again.
Have sandwiches with whole grain bread and leave the condiments on the side. Have lots of vegetables to pile onto your sandwich and if you are going to add cheese make sure it is low-fat.
Make a vegetarian or turkey chili instead of beef chili.
Have a fruit platter out so instead of grabbing cookies or other treats for dessert you have a healthy option.
What are some of your favorite, and healthy, Super Bowl foods?
Going to a Super Bowl party is just like planning for any other celebration so make sure you eat your breakfast and have a fiber-filled lunch so you don't go to the party starving. Don't forget to get in your workout during the day and if you do eat more than you planned just remember to get right back to eating healthfully the next day.
