How to Become a Runner and Burn More Calories
Friday, February 26, 2010 23:09 In my last post I spoke about how runners burn 70% more calories over walkers who cover the same distance.
Today, I want to show you how you can use this knowledge to up your calorie burning ability even if you’re not currently a runner.
The first step a walker can do to up their caloric expenditure is begin with their typical 5-10 minute walk which will allow them to warm up their body. After that I suggest breaking into a light jog that is just above a fast walking pace. Once you have that pace mastered for about 1 minute you should shoot for 1-2 minutes of running before slowing back down into your light jog pace which you’ll maintain for about double the amount of time your ran for. After that time is up you can then switch back to running at a comfortable pace for another 1-2 minutes before slowing your pace.
Continue with this process until you can decrease your run to jog ratio to a 1:1. Also, when you’re first starting out don’t be afraid to walk briskly instead of jogging during your recovery periods. This little interval sequence will help you burn more calories over the same distance and will have you feeling like a runner in no time at all!
