Question: Why is it that some cities are “fatter” than others?

Thursday, May 27, 2010 23:04

Why is it that some cities are fatter than others Men’s Fitness came out with its annual rankings of the 25 fittest and fattest cities in America.

I know most people are pretty interested to see where their city ranks and how it stacks up against some their other favorite cities.

You can see the full list and possibly your city ranking here.

Regardless of where your city ranks I’m really interested in your opinion on why some cities are “fatter” than others. Is it that they have less means of getting quality food delivered to them? Do they have fewer opportunities to exercise? Do they lack the educational resources to help them rethink what true health and fitness really is all about?

And, even if any of the above answers appear to be a definite “yes” why is it that they seem to gain more weight even when most people/cities are familiar with the notion of eating too many calories will make them put on weight?

I know there’s been research conducted on this very question I’m asking, but I’d like to hear what you believe is the reason why some cities always seem to rank higher on the unhealthy scale. I’ll post my opinion in the comment section below after a few people offer up their reasons.
