Is Sunday the New Monday?

Sunday, August 29, 2010 22:17

sunday is the new monday.jpgRight now I'm at my local gym after just having finished my workout and as I look around I can't help but notice that there's no one here...

Seriously, after a quick head count I see 5 people on the weight room floor and 7 on the cardio machines. And since this gym is about 35,000 square feet it feels completely empty.

Obviously, the great thing about there being hardly anyone else in the gym is it means that I get my pick of any equipment I need. I can even jump from exercise to exercise without having to worry about someone taking my weights!

Also, this isn't an isolated occurrence. This is the situation every Sunday...

Plus, after having worked in health clubs for over 10 years I can assure you that Monday is the most crowded day of the week and after Wednesday there begins a drastic drop off in membership attendance. When you couple this fact with the point that Monday is often your busiest and sometimes most stressful day back at work, it may make sense to take Monday off from the gym (and replace it with another day like Sunday).

This is why I believe finding 45 minutes to get in a Sunday (or weekend) workout may be the answer to a more relaxed and consistent workout schedule. Let everyone else fight the crowds and battle for equipment on Mondays while you get in a peaceful workout on the weekend!
