Hello,
I hope someone can give me some advice. My niece will be three in July. She is about 3 1/2 feet tall and weighs just over 50 pounds. She's so big she wears 7-8 in girls clothes. She's constantly running into things and tripping because she's overweight.

Her pediatrician has recommended to my sister to stop giving her sugary or fattening foods because of her weight. When she eats she shovels food in her mouth and barely chews! I'm always afraid she's going to choke! She gags on her food occassionally. She ALWAYS wants to eat. She will whine for long periods of time when she is told no.

How do I or should I talk to my sister about this. Diabetes and heart disease run on BOTH sides of our family. My niece's father (my sisters' boyfriend) is actually a diabetic. I worry about her health and her future. Could she have an "eating disorder" brought on by my sister and my mother always giving and comforting her with food?

Hi,
i am a 17 year old male that is 5 11, and weighs 144 lbs. i used to weigh 226 lbs, but through diet and exercise, i got it down. I have been on a really reduced calorie diet for 7-8 months, eating about 1110 to 1200 calories a day, and burning about 900 of them at the gym with strength training and cardio.

Lately, i have been getting really hungry, and i have begun to eat a lot more. i eat healthy though, but i have noticed i can't see my six pack as well as before, and i'm afraid im gaining weight.

i really screwed up my metabolism with the diet, how should i get it back in order that i can eat more. I also want to gain a lot more muscle, but i dont want to gain any fat. please help!

Additional Details
i eat oatmeal and chai in the morning, have an apple and water for lunch, and eat some chicken dish for dinner at six with chai. i also lift weights for an hour and a half and do 5 minutes of cardio 5 days a week

Sound strange?

Well, this is what employees of Summit Health Institute for Research and Education (SHIRE), a nonprofit organization which fights obesity, have been up to. They are among the first to embrace "Instant Recess", a push to establish 10-minute daily exercise breaks in all workplaces.

I go to an all-girls school. Im 15 and I weigh 185 pounds. I feel like a complete disaster, and my mother tries to remind me of this every chance she gets. I guess you could say the girls at school are not that bad, all things considered. However, I often feel like I'm not invited to things such as birthday parties from girls I considered to be my friends. No one has actually said anything, but I know it is because I don't 'fit' in, literally. Where I'm from, enyone over a medium is considered fat. I wear extra-large.

What's the point in living, when everyone around you pities you? Will I ever get through this?

As a physician, I have recently discovered a new supergrain called quinoa (pronounced keen-wah). Let me tell you why quinoa is better than rice.

1. DELICIOUS - a light nutty flavorful taste

2. NUTRITIONAL SUPERIORITY
a. HIGHER PROTEIN: It consists of 14% protein (double the protein content of white rice!). Unlike wheat or rice (which are low in lysine), quinoa contains essential amino acids making it an especially complete protein source among plant foods (important for vegetarians).
b. HEALTHY FAT: quinoa has a higher amount of omega-3 fatty acids, which are important in cardiovascular and cognitive health.
c. LOWER CARBOHYDRATES AND GLYCEMIC INDEX: quinoa has the lowest carb content among the grains with only 57g of net carbs per 100 grams (20 fewer g. of carbs than white rice per serving). For individuals concerned with glycemic index, quinoa's is 35, half that of short grain white rice.
d. RICH IN MINERALS: B vitamins, vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorous and zinc.

3. GLUTEN-FREE: a wonderful and delicious alternative for people with gluten intolerance.

4. CAN BE COOKED IN A VARIETY OF WAYS
