Can Buying a Dog Help You Lose Weight?
Tuesday, December 1, 2009 1:05If you’ve read any of my posts on what a great idea it is to take a walk after dinner, then you have no doubt heard me talk about the benefits of this topic…
Here’s an easy way that some people are inadvertently getting 4x the amount of exercise than their peers:
A new study has shown that dog owners get 5 hours and 38 minutes of exercise a week just from walking their pet 2x a day for 24 minutes each walk. When the researchers compared that with non-pet owners they found that those people only got about 1 hour and 20 minutes per week by going to the gym or taking a walk (and half didn’t exercise at all!).
Imagine if you still continued to exercise and added 2-3 20-minute walks a day with your dog? The calories and time spent being active (instead of sitting down) would make a big impact on your weight loss efforts when coupled with a healthy nutritional plan!
