Clients constantly deal with food cravings but it doesn't have to be your downfall. The trick is to know what to do ahead of time. Here are a few ideas:

  • Indulge in something if you have to, but just once a week and in a small quantity unless of course it sets you off into a binge. Deprivation doesn't usually work. Make it a part of your food plan (not extra food) if you can so you don't feel guilty about it.
  • If that little devil on your shoulder is
taunting you, then again have it but make it a rule that you must put it on a plate (not consume it out of the package) and sit down and savor every single bite. Make it mindful eating.
  • Determine if it's just a habit, if you are really hungry or even stressed. Ask yourself, "Am I really hungry?" If you are hungry, find a healthy snack you enjoy first and see if that does the trick.
  • Check ND's Daily Needs Calculator to make sure you are eating enough  earlier in the day (at least two thirds of your intake should occur during this time). If you aren't eating enough it will catch up with you later and you'll end up overly hungry, call it "cravings" and eat too much.

Readers what do you do when those cravings occur?
