Sometimes when you want to lose weight it has nothing at all to do with the diet you are following. Other times it’s just about what's going on in your thinking. Here are some observations I’ve made over the last 20 years about successful “losers.” A successful dieter needs to:

  • Believe in himself: If a person really believes he can lose weight, he will. This doesn’t mean you have to be arrogant.  It just means you have to believe in yourself strongly enough to know you have what it takes to be successful.
  • Develop an ongoing persistence and patience toward achievement.  An unpopular way of putting this, is that maybe you are simply too lazy to act on your goals.  And underlying this premise is that people who say they are just too lazy have owned this self fulfilling prophesy belief system which literally gets in the way of achieving the goal and doing the work it involves to lose the weight. In other words it's not the laziness it's just the belief that one is lazy.
  • Be willing to get out of the comfort zone. Let’s face it when you are losing weight there are numerous changes in your life that you need to change permanently. For example it's not easy to actually feel negative emotions when you usually eat over them. If you are totally willing to be uncomfortable when you make these changes you have what it takes to change your lifestyle around unhealthy eating habits.
