“Measure Up Bowls”
Thursday, April 8, 2010 12:24The last couple of weeks I had discussed portion sizes for various food groups. Recently though I came across a nifty tool that may take some of the guess work out of portion control. They are called The Measure Up Bowls and are microwave and dishwasher safe porcelain portion bowls that the creator states "are a great healthy lifestyle tool because they really do seem to take some of the guesswork out of calorie counting.”
Many fad diets give food that is already portioned out and of course what happens after you reach your goal? You go back to your old familiar way of easting larger portions again. Maybe the Measure Up Bowls could possibly work as part of a solution to portion control if you eat at home or bring the bowls to work with you to lunch. The pre-measured portions are for 1/2 cup to 2 cup servings. The small Measure Up Bowl is perfect for high fat, calorie dense foods snack like foods which should only be consumed in smaller portions. There are pre-measured markings on the interior of the small Measure Up Bowl in 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, and 3/4 sizes. So depending if you know what your portions really are or should be they may offer you some help.
Eating out would be the next challenge with portions but I always tell my clients consume half your meal in veggies and a fourth in starch (one half cup to one cup) and a fourth in protein (about three ounces.) For fat you have to ask your server for specific directions.
Readers what do you think? Would they help you?
