MPj04388670000[1] Subjects who took smaller bites (about a teaspoonful) ate a whole lot less than they did when they ate the same meal but took larger bite sizes (about a tablespoonful). The subjects were instructed to eat as much as they wanted. Chewing each bite for longer also cut down on the amount of food the subjects wanted–but to a lesser extent.

This study (involving just 22 people) is too small to be considered anything but preliminary. But if you're trying to cut down on calories, why not give it a try?  Cut your food into smaller pieces. Chew longer. See if you are satisfied with less. Report back here!
