Have you started putting your menu together for Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving 1

Do you need some ideas for healthy dishes for your family and guests?

Here are some tips and dishes for you to try for your Thanksgiving feast:

As the host have out some vegetables and dip so you have healthy food to snack on when you guests arrive. Or offer to bring a platter of vegetables if you are invited as a guest so you know you have something healthy to start off your meal with. Try this Vegetable Platter with Cannellini "Hummus". You can also put out vegetables with salsa, guacamole, or other low-fat bean dips.

Start out your meal with soup – soup can help fill you up and that will help you eat less during the rest of your meal. Make sure your soups are broth based and not cream based such as Parsnip and Apple Soup or Pinto Bean, Tomato, and Butternut Squash Soup (this soup makes 6 main dish servings – you can also make it for 12 appetizer portions.)

In addition to having soup you should also start your meal with salad. This is a good way to get in your vegetables and also fills you up on healthy, high fiber foods. You can make your favorite salad or try Grapefruit and Jicama Salad or Apple Walnut Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

Check back later this week for some great side dish ideas as well as healthy ways to prepare your turkey and some non-turkey ideas for your Thanksgiving meal.
