Earlier in the week I mentioned some specific questions regarding your thinking about success during the upcoming holidays. Today I will elaborate on the importance of positive thinking influencing successful outcome.

Did you notice how negative the questions were? This is an extremely important point to reflect on. Why, because  lack of optimism usually leads to negative outcome. Rarely does positive thinking lead to negative behaviors.

For example if someone says, “What’s the use of even trying, there are just too many events with all my favorite foods, and I can’t possibly moderate my eating,” What do you think will happen? Will that thinking benefit your eating behavior or will it become a self-fulfilling prophecy? On the other hand, what do you think will happen, if you say, “I know the holidays are challenging but I will develop strategies and find a support person to help me do my best?”
